Ukraine, Montenegro, Albania, and Norway have aligned themselves with the declaration of the Council of the European Union (EU) that prolonged sanctions until March 15, 2019, over actions in Crimea and Donbas that undermine Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"On 12 September 2018, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2018/1237. The Council Decision prolongs the restrictive measures for a further six months, until 15 March 2019. The Candidate Countries Montenegro and Albania, and the EFTA [European Free Trade Association] country Norway, member of the European Economic Are a, as well as Ukraine, align themselves with this declaration," the High Representative said in a declaration on October 22 on behalf of the EU on the alignment of certain countries concerning restrictive measures in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

"They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision," the declaration said.

The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Council's decision to prolong the restrictive measures over actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for another six months came into effect after an official publication in the EU Official Journal on September 14, 2018.

"The measures consist of asse t freezes and travel restrictions. They currently apply to 155 persons and 44 entities," the Council said.
